Belting Leather briefcase, one side is dented in. Can I do anything to undent it?

We are talking about a Hartmann’s lawyers briefcase(used), and no, I can’t get my money back. Now the case itself looks new, no scuff or scratches. Just the dent that extends across the front of the case, just below the lock. The previous owner told me this happens naturally to belting leather(BS?), and to contact the Hartmann home office in Tennessee. Tell me if I can solve this problem on my own, and thanks!
